Steinberg's Model E VSTi and VB-1 VSTi- now freeware

Steinberg re-released as freeware two classic virtual instrument plugins- Model E and VB-1, both discontinued years ago.

Throughout the long history of Steinberg, many products have come and gone, many have been superseded by new variants and others have been dropped completely. Once in a while, however, some of our developers like to dig up one of these long forgotten gems and polish it ready for current operating systems.

As these revived products remain discontinued, their updates are not officially supported. Updates for discontinued products are sporadic as these are voluntarily provided by our engineers in their free time.

Model E is a classic analog synth with ultra-low CPU load and 77 factory presets and VB-1 is a virtual bass emulation with selectable pick position.

E|Drums Mini Vol2

IAmMrTheBigMan has released a set of loops created using the samples from the previous pack and recorded thru Massive Drum Machine in Reaktor.

So what do we do with single one shot sounds?
I make them into loops. I have taken all of the samples in E|Drums Mini Vol1 and loaded them into the Massive Drum Machine in Reaktor to create some of the most out there loops I have heard in a while.

The pack is 69 MB and contains 30 loops at 120 bpm. All loops are in WAV format.

Drumlab 1 Samples

The FXB Project has released Drumlab 1, a free sample collection made with freeware plugins found on internet and live recordings. The collection is split in 3 folders:  kicks (10 samples), percussions (10 samples) and snares (10 samples).

Drumlab 1 is a small colection of FREE synthesized drum sounds. The pack contains 30 wave files (16 bits/44100Hz).

The samples are created using softsynths (Charlatan, Kairatune, Fruity 3osc) and live recordings.

MusicRadar has released a set of loops containing bass, beats and synth sounds. '148 free cosmic soul samples' was previously featured on on Future Music magazine's cover DVD.

This week's SampleRadar collection isn't easy to stylistically pin down. But given that it takes inspiration from US genre-hopper Flying Lotus, that's hardly surprising.

Let's just settle for saying that if you're keen to get your glitchy LA hip-hop vibe on, this is a good place to start.

Plex 2 VSTi

Plex 2 was previously distributed by Steinberg as a commercial product. Now it is freeware and is re-released by Wolfgang Palm with updated preset banks, a new manual. Also a native x64 (64-bit) version for Windows is available for download.

I downloaded it and I can say that it deserves those 167 MB- this is the 'weight' the plugin has compressed: stunning factory presets, unusual feeling and great results. Perfect for creatins full and rich 'natural' sounding pads.
You will find it very easy to use, also it works great with FL Studio.

Plex is a "Restructuring Synthesizer". The original sound is split into four components, lower spectrum, higher spectrum, filter characteristics and amplitude envelope, using a new audio analysis technique. Each component can be replaced and combined with other elements. The result is a thrillingly "natural" sound.

j1000 has released PQ33 v1.0, a freeware VST equalizer mixer for Windows. This plugin comes with 16 factory presets.

PQ33 is a freeware VST equalizer based on RND Portico 5033 hardware unit. It has the same number and layout of elements, same frequency ranges for all filters, same gain operational levels and Q factors. It is intended for use during mixing and tracking, but it can also be used for simple mastering tasks.

Yamaha PSR-73 Drum Kit

Hardballs Records has released a set of drum sounds recorded from Yamaha PSR-73. The sounds are available in EXS-24 and NI Kontakt formats, but don't worry, FL Studio users can use the WAV files packed in the EXS-24 version.

The next awesome toy we have here from Yamaha doesn’t have the toy-synth percussion sounds (in case you’re not going for the cheesy low-fi sound from the 80’s-90’s).  This bank contains all the percussion sounds from the psr-73, this is actually 2 kits in one, with two tome sets that I really liked, in addition to that, this bank actually contains FOUR snare sounds.

FLP File Remake: Lux Aeterna- Asphalt Pride

Asphalt Pride, a band from from Chettinad Vidyashram, India sent me via e-mail a cool remake of Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna, the motif song from the great movie Requiem For A Dream (by the way I saw this for about 20 times).

The remake is made using only FL Studio native plugins like Direct Wave and Sytrus, the drums are from FL Studio too. Enjoy!

E|Drums Mini Vol1

MrTheBigMan has released E|Drums Mini Vol1, a free drum sample pack containing 70 drum hits in WAV format.

Recently, I have been pulling together resources to create E|Drums XL which will be the culmination of the E|Drums series so far.

In doing so, I came across a plugin called the Dirty Panda Drumbox (pictured below) by CFA Sound which was given away free by Computer Music Magazine.

This is one of the first plugin’s of its type that I have used to create authentic Analogue drum machine sound and found it to be a real joy to use. Therefore, I thought I would wet your appetite for the E|Drums XL release by releasing a sampler of the sounds achievable by using this plugin.

FLP File: Orchestral Beat- Lucky Flaush

As I promised on Facebook, here we are with a track I made times ago (actually this summer), it is a sort of hip hop beat with orchestral feel, I know, nowadays we call everything hip hop...
I used for this mainly Purity VSTi and Edirol Orchestral for that oboe in the background. By the way, after you load this project, don't forget to select 'Oboe1' at Orchestral. I used also Dimension LE for the spacy guitar, I am pretty sure that you will find a similar sound in your synth of choice.
The drums are FL Studio 'original', I used only FL native plugins as effects and I used also one Ogun sound (the bell sound).

I rendered all patterns to WAV files,  if you don't have the plugins or you are not able to find similar sounds, just use the loops.
The RAR file contains:

• the flp file project with drum sounds;

Dubstep Construction Kit

Creative Monkeyz released Dubstep Construction Kit, a free sample pack containing dubstep arpeggios, basses, drums, effects and leads.
The collection is split in five folders: Arp, Bass, Drums, Fx and Lead, each containing subfolders with loops from A to G.
In Bass folder you'll find 13 X 8 wobble bass variations (104 bass loops) and the Drums folder contains also the one-shot samples used for the drum loops.
The Lead Arp and Fx folders are filled with useable samples and loops ready to drop in the mix.
There are over 270 samples/loops to choose from. This collection is 210 MB in size when is extracted, the ZIP archive is 197 MB. All samples are in 24 Bit 48 Khz WAV format and are royalty free!

jsCompShaper VST

jsCompShaper is a free compressor VST plugin released by Johannes S. Mueller-Roemer and Nick Moritz.

Yet another compressor, but this one has the ability to morph between soft-knee compression and waveshaping as desired. Furthermore, it provides pre-/post-emphasis filtering (similar to a side-chain filter) and a more analog-like attack than jsComp (see below).
The GUI was designed by Nick Moritz (RADO Records).

This useful compressor plugin comes with 36 pre-built presets and it is totally free for any use including commercial releases.

Voltage Controlled Sample Collection Vol.1

Dan303 from the new-born Voltage-Controlled.com, released a free/ royalty free pack containing various loops, samples, synth waveforms etc, we're talking about 1 GB of content ready for download, ready for use!

A few weeks ago my external hard drive decided that it was going to die on me, this resulted in me losing backups of older sample packs and music. So to make sure that this wouldn't happen again I've gone through the site and re-downloaded the samples.

While I was re-building my backup folder I thought it would be a cool idea to upload the whole thing to the site and give you lot the option to download all of the Voltage Controlled samples at once. So that's exactly what I did, I compressed the samples down into a .RAR file and uploaded them.

Noisebud Burt is our first attempt to make a VSTi. We needed a bass synth that delivered more grit and dirt and didn’t need hours of twiddling before getting there. We based the sound engine on waveshaping through distortion, bit crush and resonance since our VST fx chains on bass channels almost always contain that sort of plugins. The result is a angry old fart that we named Burt. He can get so angry that his audio buffers overflows and get silent, you have to restart your DAW to cool him down but don’t worry, Burt will start screaming again.

MusicRadar has released a collection of 236 free bassline loops in high quality WAV format.

Growing out of speed garage, bassline (the genre, not the musical element) first came to prominence in the early part of the century.

Although it's recently been out-shone by dubstep, bassline shouldn't be forgotten, which is why SampleRadar is celebrating it today.
