CFA-Sound has announced the release of Supersaw OSC, a free VST instrument plugin for Windows.

Everyone who produces electronic music knows the infamous Supersaw of the Roland JP8000/8080, and even it`s a relatively old synthesizer this specific waveform or better sayed oscillator mode is still used and wanted. Also for myself, but more in terms of discovering how it works and how to emulate it.

During the last year, i worked on a small emulation of it as little side project for fun & learning primary, and well here it is, the current result. It`s not final, and surely in some specific areas not 100% like original but very close based on the comparision to the real one and the specs.

I created below a simple melody with the instrument plugin:

The Supersaw OSC version (v0.15) is currently in a beta phase and the author states that is pretty close to the original. It consist of one oscillator, with a basic ADSR envelope and output volume control. You can leave any feedback (specially to improve the quality and get it closer to the original) on plugin page at CFA-Sound.

I will look closely the evolution of this plugin, mostly because I like things simple and pure. Speaking of pure, indeed this plugin needs a little more refinement, there are still some glitches. But the direction is good.

Supersaw OSC is for Windows 32-bit only, but it work also in 64-bit DAWs via JBrigde.
