Gravel by Taiga dsp is a free distortion VST “with a twist”.

So let’s see what’s so spectacular with it. First, we find out that Taiga combines three types of distortion with an envelope follower that can be used as a modulation source, giving the effects amplitude-driven dynamic characteristics.

Second, it is perfect to create lo-fi effects, powerful percussions and “some interesting modulated crankiness”.

Visually, it appears as a black & white minimalistic plugin with three main knobs: the Bit Depth reduction scaled from 1 to 24 bit, the Drive, with hard clipping and the Decimation- sample rate reduction. On the right side are the Attack and Release knobs as part of Envelope follower plus mod knobs for all the above effects and audio input.

Gravel is now available for Windows operating systems (32 and 64 bit VST2 plugins). If you like it, consider a donation at Taiga dsp.

Download size is 1.9MB.
