Cakewalk has announced that is offering for free (limited time offer) its CA-2A Leveling Amplifier plugin for Windows and Mac OSX.

CA-2A is a plugin emulation of the legendary Teletronix LA-2A hardware compressor. It puts the silky, smooth sound of this highly desirable unit right into any VST compatible DAW.

CA-2A wears same controls as the LA-2A hardware, such as Gain (gain make-up), Peak Reduction (threshold), and a Ratio switch between compression and limiting. The VU Meter Mode sets the VU meter to display either gain reduction, db-Full Scale output, or either of the analog simulated metering modes.

This plugin is easy to use: simply turn up the gain reduction and gain-match your signal. Having fixed attack and release settings, it just keeps you focused only on your music. CA-2A Leveling Amplifier works perfectly on various sound sources, including guitars, basses, pads, and especially vocals. You can add movement, depth, and control to your tracks with ease. Also, you can lift the vocal tracks, or drive your bass guitar with the harmonic saturation heard at extreme gain reduction settings.

Cakewalk has added a secondary release type and side-chain capability to the CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier for classic dynamic mixing techniques. Pump your 2-bus or duck your bass with kick, and take control of your mixes with incredible accuracy.

Cakewalk CA-2A Leveling Amplifier plugin is free for a limited time only. In order to download it, you will have to fill in a form, and on the next page you will be prompted to download the Cakewalk Command Center. Now you have two options:

1. Download and install it, launch it and enter your Cakewalk Account username and password (if you don’t have a Cakewalk Account, create one, but make sure you use same email address you provided in the form). In Cakewalk Command Center (under the Connected Products tab) you will find your copy of CA-2A – download alongside serial number and registration code.

2. Do not install the Cakewalk Command Center. Create an account (with same address used while completing the form) and connect online at https://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account/. Once connected, click My Product to find your plugin installer. This option is recommended because the installer provided there lets you choose either the 32 bit or 64 bit version of CA-2A Leveling Amplifier. The 64 bit version of plugin may fail to load in FL Studio 64 bit, you will have to use the 32 bit version.
