Recently I came across Outro, a brand new user-generated sample catalog and collaboration platform that promises to help aspiring producers and musicians.
The platform launched in beta in December 2016, centred around the mission of helping producers and musicians make money from their craft, igniting collaborations and to simplify the process of looking for samples.
On the site, you can either browse through a wide range of samples or upload an unfinished track and their system will find samples that match its key and tempo. Many samples on-site are available at alternate keys and tempos so you have a higher likelihood of finding what you’re looking for.
You can also collaborate with musicians and producers around the world through direct requests to specific creators or public messages to the entire platform. Outro system allows you to set a price, send messages and share files.
In the following, I will introduce you some of the free sample packs that have drawn my attention:
- EDM Voices – 100 free voices, stutters and hooks from Montreal producer Leone.
- Island Rhythms – 50 free melodies, drum loops and basslines inspired by the summery sounds of Dancehall and Tropical House. Includes samples at alternate keys and tempos for more creative options.
- Vinyl Cuts – 125 free drum percussion samples cut to vinyl, then resampled. Includes kicks, shakers, snares, random percussion and more.
- 808 Subs on Vinyl – more than 100 free Trap subs cut to vinyl, then resampled.
- Functional FX – 30 free downlifters, impacts and white noise whooshes for atmosphere and movement. Includes samples at alternate keys and tempos for more creative options.
All samples are 100% royalty-free. In order to download the samples, registration at Outro is required. Please make note that sign up is free for Outro, and that content on the site is user-generated.
