Sonex Audio has announced the release of Stein D Grand, a free sample-based instrument for NI Kontakt featuring a massive 6.3 GB library.
They sampled a legendary Steinway D Acoustic Piano, using 4 separate mic positions: close (stereo and mono), middle, far, and ambience (room). There are up to 12 velocity layers, allowing for realistic performances/scores. Also, nearly 28GB of uncompressed sample content was compressed to 6.3 GB.
Stein D Grand has an array of built-in effect modules such as 3-Band Equalizer, Compressor, Saturation, Distortion, Chorus, Reverb, Delay, Stereo Width and Limiter. Its unique GUI has been designed to give a user full control over options and effects without slowing down the creative process.
This virtual instrument requires a full retail version of NI Kontakt 5.6 or later. Kontakt Player isn’t supported.

The “More Information” link does not lead to the page for this piano library.
The download link is somewhere at the bottom of their page, where it writes FREE DOWNLOAD
UPDATE: For anyone else who’s confused, the page linked above is for the “Studio Pro Suite.” Then, way at the bottom of the page—past the mentions of many other products—you’ll find the words “FREE DOWNLOAD,” below which is the link for the free piano.

It’s not at that page anymore. Looks like they didn’t pay their renewal fee for their domain. The problem now is that all their software is on torrent and some dubious websites where you can get free versions of Cubase etc……
