Flintpope has announced the release of DARK, a free VST/AU instrument for creating and playing rich and dark pads.
DARK has an unusual interface, with eight rectangles at the top, one of which is grey (this one is un-muted). Each rectangle is a trigger for a sample and has dedicated Gain and Pan dial. The tone changes from grey to varying lighter tones of grey to let you know which ones are in use. Master controls are Attack, Release and Master Volume. There is an LFO with separate controls for Rate, Depth, Waveform, Destination and Source. Moving on to the effects modules, you can access Vinyl, Reverb and Pitch-shift – three dials in the same minimal style.
At the base of the instrument stay eight Flintpope samples, all chosen for sonic richness and darker mood. Any sample sound nicely on its own, but you can go on to mix different combinations of sounds to create up to 64 different variations. DARK has a very small screen-footprint so you can use multiple instances.
DARK is a free instrument, but if you afford a small donation, simply put any price in the box on the Gumroad page instead of zero. Versions available are VST for Windows and VST/AU for Mac OSX.
